Muscle Stimulation - Ultratone™
During the Ultratone™ Body Toning session, electrodes in the form of conductive rubber are placed on the surface of the skin, usually over the motor points of selected muscles. When a very weak electronic current is applied through the pads, the signal finds its way first to the skin, then to connective tissue and the blood flow system, then to fatty deposits and the lymphatic system and finally to the motor point of the muscle, which causes it to contract, just as if it had received a natural signal from the nerve.
Body shaping and muscle toning.
The principle of electronic muscle stimulation (EMS) is quite straight
forward. When one voluntarily contracts a muscle during everyday movement
or while exercising,
the brain sends a signal along a nerve to the motor point of a muscle. This signal,
similar to the body’s own biological signal, is a message telling the muscle
to contract. In medicine, Ultratone™ electronic muscle stimulation is used
to prevent pain, heal, rehabilitate, prevent atrophy in paralyzed patients, stimulate
the diaphragm of patients unable to breath due to injury or disease, to treat
incontinence, scoliosis, and many other dysfunctions. Among athletes, Ultratone™ is
used to treat muscle injuries, and as an adjunct to their training and conditioning
routines. In Day Spas, Ultratone™ units are used to their full capacity
to lift, tighten, tone and rejuvenate both face and body.
